Focusing on the upcoming Test series against South Africa, Pakistan’s experienced- most batter Azhar Ali has asked the young squad to approach the game optimistically and clutch all opportunities. The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team has stated that it’s not the time for rearing insecurities, as players need to be free from psychological blockages during those high profile matches.
On their last visit to Pakistan in 2007, South Africa sealed the two-Test series by 1-0. However, the upcoming series is going to be commenced on January 26, and a 20-member squad comprising 9 uncapped players has already been announced by the cricket board of Pakistan (PCB).
Stirring his experience he has gained from his prolonged cricketing career, Azhar uttered, “International cricket is always a challenge. Even if you play as a youngster or up there for long, the pressure will remain forever”. He also added, “But obviously for a new player it is a challenge to handle pressure and then there are insecurities in our culture around what if they are dropped”.
Pointing to another imperative aspect, Younis Khan, Pakistan’s batting coach has mentioned about other team players, who proved themselves after attending over 100 first-class matches. On the other hand, Pakistan is picking players from other cricket formats, hoping for quality performances from them.
Hence, thoroughly agreeing with Azhar Ali, he has also advised Pakistani young guns to have faith in their skills and do whatever they do best.
