The 2026 IPL will mark a new beginning of Rohit Sharma who promises to come back strongly after several unimpressive years. One of the most successful executives in the league with five titles and a poor record since 2019, Rohit has been able to reach the 400-run mark only twice. But this season comes with a new hope after the veteran batter is seen leaner, fitter, and much motivated after having gone through a marvelous transformation after losing his weight.
The physical change of Rohit has already been an item of conversation in the cricketing circles. Even the former players such as Eoin Morgan and Brendon McCullum made jokes about his new appearance in the T20 World Cup knockouts. It did not stop with the opener of the IPL 2026 of Mumbai Indians when the team owner, Nita Ambani, was shocked upon seeing Rohit. When she was shaking hands with players and staff, including the batting coach Kieron Pollard, she could barely recognize Rohit without looking at him, noting, You look like a boy, which made the ex-captain smile.
It is reported that Rohit has lost almost 11 kilograms and hopes to give one of his best seasons in IPL. In the IPL 2025 he reached his highest score of 418 runs, his highest score in ten years, but he had been able to achieve 417 the previous season including a century against Kolkata Knight Riders.
In spite of his better shape, Rohit should remain in the Impact Player position as indicated by the head coach Mahela Jayawardene. Their first match is against the Kolkata Knights Riders in the Wankhede stadium, where they have a superior record.
