More than 700 players from Konta block were not given adequate arrangements for breakfast and food. Only poha was served at 11 am and the children did not get any other food till 5.30 pm. To participate in the games, the children had to play on an empty stomach, due to which their tiredness and discomfort was clearly visible. The children said that by the time they got food in the evening, they were very tired. The teachers who came with them were also hungry.
Many children and villagers who reached the district headquarters for the first time from Naxal-affected areas were so angry with these mismanagement that they said that if they had even the slightest idea of this mismanagement, they would never have come here except for farming and other work. Not only this, the teachers and officers who had come from Konta were also absent during the event. In this way, the people who were put on duty to take care of the children also failed to fulfill their responsibility.
Even though there were some mismanagement in the event, enthusiasm was visible among the children and villagers who came from Naxal-affected areas for these games. Children from interior areas like Jagargunda, Chintalnar, Kistaram, and Errabor reached the district headquarters for the first time. The teachers who came with the children were overjoyed to see the enthusiasm of the children. They said that such events should be organized every year, so that tribal children endowed with natural talent get a chance to showcase their abilities.
Administration should fix accountability for negligence
Teachers who came to attend the event, while talking to Lalluram.com on the condition of anonymity, said that Bastar Olympics is a commendable initiative. Its purpose is to develop the talent of tribal children, but lack of basic facilities and administrative negligence weakens this objective. The administration should fix accountability for failure to provide basic facilities like adequate food, rest, and care to the players.
