With the IPL Playoffs approaching in 2025, all focus is on the match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at night. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are through to the playoffs, so MI and DC are facing each other for the last remaining place. Interestingly, the weather report in Mumbai has been a surprise source of information.

People in Mumbai have been warned that showers may make Wednesday evening a washout, as a yellow alert has been issued. If the game is cancelled by rain, the points would be divided, which can complicate the qualifying round. Remaining at the top of the NRR, MI could still get 15 points if they lose to PBKS and end up in third place. DC, meanwhile, will have to get a victory in their final match and hope for the NRR to go their way, which increases the challenge of reaching the playoffs.

Because of this, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has asked the BCCI to move the MI vs DC match to another venue. Jindal pointed to weather forecasts made several days ahead and said it was the same reason the earlier RCB vs SRH match was moved out of the rain in Bengaluru.

Mumbai is set to experience heavy rain, meaning the match could be cancelled, Jindal told me in an email. “For the league and equal treatment, I request that the game be transported elsewhere, since we’ve known about the weather warning for several days.”

His appeal comes after KKR CEO Venky Mysore said that different interpretations of rain-based rules hurt their chances in the playoffs in the IPL.
