The WPL will have five teams named the likes of Men’s IPL.

“Today is a historic day in cricket as the bidding for teams of the inaugural #WPL broke the records of the inaugural Men’s IPL in 2008! Congratulations to the winners as we garnered Rs.4669.99 Cr in total bid. This marks the beginning of a revolution in women’s cricket and paves the way for a transformative journey ahead not only for our women cricketers but for the entire sports fraternity. The #WPL would bring necessary reforms in women’s cricket and would ensure an all-encompassing ecosystem that benefits each and every stakeholder,” Shah wrote on Twitter.

Team Mumbai was bagged by Reliance Group for ₹912 cr while Adani Group clinched the bid for Ahmedabad team for ₹1289. Diageo bagged Bangalore franchise for ₹901 while Capri Global got Lucknow for ₹757 crore and JSW won Delhi for ₹810 crore as the total bid valuation reached ₹4669.99cr during the bidding for the five franchises of the Women’s IPL in Mumbai on Wednesday.

A total of 17 bidders competed to acquire teams in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League. Firms like Haldiram’s, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Capri Global, and Adani Group, among others, submitted technical bids on Monday.

Earlier, Viacom 18 was handed over the media rights of the soon-to-be-launched Women’s Indian Premier League for a period of five years (2023-27). The company has committed Rs 951 crore, which will be around Rs 7.09 crore per match. There will be 22 matches in the first three editions and 34 in the next two.
