Ace cricketer and youth favourite Virat Kohli on Thursday announced to step down as the captain for Indian Cricket team in T20Is after concluding the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in UAE And Oman from October 17 t November 14.
“I have decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October,” wrote Kohli on his microblogging handle. Kohli stated that after vigorous discussions with head coach Ravi Shastri and white-ball skipper Rohit he decided to step down coming to the conclusion that he needs to concentrate more on ODI and Test cricket both as a batsman and as captain to take the team to new heights.
“I have been fortunate enough to not only represent India but also lead the Indian Cricket Team to my utmost capability. I thank everyone who has supported me in my journey as the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team. I couldn’t have done it without them – the boys, the support staff, the selection committee, my coaches and each and every Indian who prayed for us to win, he said.”
Kohli took over as the captain of the Indian cricket team in the shortest format in 2017 after MS Dhoni resigned from his post. This would be the first time Kohli would lead the Indian team in the ICC T20 World Cup. So far the ace captain has brought the Indian team to the finals of the 2017 ICC Championships Trophy and the semi-final of the 2019 ICC World Cup.
