KL Rahul showed his class in his return to Test cricket, scoring a century against the England Lions in the second unofficial game, making it hard for the selectors to ignore him for the upcoming series. After not being part of the first match, Rahul highlighted his skills as soon as he played for India A. On Day 1, right after tea, he made a classy hundred off 151 balls, showing that he is calm, tough and has a lot of style.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran returned cheaply for India A, Rahul built a strong 86-run partnership with Karun Nair. In the previous game, Nair scored a double century, and now he scored a smooth 40 before he was dismissed after facing 71 deliveries. However, Rahul stayed calm and guided the innings, breaking the active spell after reaching his half-century and ended up scoring three figures convincingly. He scored three more times in a row, this time Pujara contributed 13 boundaries and a six, once more underlining why he is in charge at the crease.

This year can help decide the direction of his career. India missed Rohit and have been looking for a new opener, and Rahul appears ready for the task. After being dethroned and moved into the middle order because of Pant’s absence and injury, the star is now aiming to be back as a top player.

In Australia, Rahul only appeared in Tests for India, and he only played in the seventh position at first. He moved to the opening in the series finisher. The start of this century officially marks Rahul’s plan to get back into the opening role, and if his current form is any indication, he is more than able to take on this role again with confidence.
