With yet another dominant win, Gujarat Titans, who are at the top of the table, continue to take an upper hand in the IPL 2025 season. They then make a trip to Eden Gardens to face the struggling and identity-less Kolkata Knight Riders. Beaten in all aspects today, KKR are in the worst of damage control mode, while GT are basking in momentum and confidence, having won their last five games in a row after losing their opening affair to SRH.
This is a tale of two campaigns, each of which has been entirely different. The red-hot form of Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler has made a batting engine that just will not stall. The other one has been there till the very end of almost every game, offering solid grounds and match-winning partnerships. Adapting to different match situations brilliantly and putting pressure all through the innings, their bowling unit has been excellent.
However, defending champions KKR—much less title contenders—do not look at right now. They have swung between victories and defeats, oscillating between poor batting, poor bowling line-up and lack of rhythm. Also, the bane for them has been their inability to keep a settled XI. But a week’s rest, combined with Eden Gardens’ backing, helps to build enough fuel to resume.
This is a major junction for Kolkata. Being a champion, they will need their top order to fire and pitch a platform for their middle order to exploit, something that helped them to the title last year. The challenge is steep, and it is against a near-unbreachable GT bowling attack. With the playoffs race heating up, KKR cannot afford to wait; it’s now or never to lift their champion pedigree and come with a statement win.
