Meanwhile bidding for overseas streaming is going on, with Viacom 18 battling hard. The battle for acquiring Package C, a special set of 18 matches, including the final and Sunday evening matches, per season. The bidding value has gone past twice the base price which was set at Rs 11 crore per match by the BCCI, according to reports. The base price for package D is Rs 3 crore per match.
It seems the Rs 50,000 crore mark is going to be breached very soon. Big windfall this for the BCCI.
The break-up of 410 matches across five years are as follows: 74 matches each for 2023 and 2024. It increases to 84 games in 2025 and 2026, and 94 matches in 2027.
Viacom 18 on the second day of bidding bagged the digital rights for the Indian Sub-continent with Rs 50 crore per game summing up to Rs 20,500 crore. The TV rights were retained by Disney Star for the Indian sub-continent.
Notably, the BCCI did not allow composite bids for TV and digital, unlike in 2017. Star India had made a composite winning bid despite Facebook emerging as the highest bidder with Rs 3,900 crore for digital rights for the 2018-22 cycle.
