As the window to retaining players before the mega auction draws closer, IPL teams are again in the spotlight ahead of the IPL auction. Each franchise is instructed to enclose their retention list by 5 O’clock in the afternoon of the 31st of October in the year 2024. This year, BCCI is holding the IPL auction internationally, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has been finalised to host the 2025 IPL Mega Auction. While the official announcement has not been made, the sources have confirmed with the news agency about the auction for the rights of this threshold to be held on the 24th and 25th of November in Riyadh.

“It will be a two-day event. At least a team has been dispatched to Riyadh for verification purposes to ensure that all the preparations are made as required. As of now, everything is being said and done in confidence, and we have not made a formal announcement that we are finalising hotels,” a source privy to the details informed a news agency. The BCCI also has a couple of fallbacks in mind, with Abu Dhabi being the frontrunner in the scenario that requires it.

If the auction goes on as planned on November 24 and 25, it will occur simultaneously with India’s first Test cricket against Australia, which will begin in Perth on November 22 and end on November 26. The auction would scheduled to take place on the third and fourth day of the Test. But because of the difference in time between Saudi and Australia, cricket lovers will not miss either of the events. The Test proceedings on Days 3 and 4 will conclude by around 3:20 PM IST, while the auction is likely to start anytime between 3:30 PM IST to 4 PM IST so as not to clash much with the match time for fans interested in both.
