IPL mini auction has started in Kochi and there have been quite a few developments so far with 3 players breaking the IPL all time bidding record.
Sam Curran became the most expensive player sold in an auction after Punjab Kings bought him for Rs 18.5 crore. Curran made his IPL bow with Punjab Kings in 2019 after being bought by the Mohali-based franchise for 7.2 crores in the auction prior to the season. However, he was released after the campaign and was bought by Chennai SuperKings in the auction prior to IPL 2020 for 5.5 crores.
Australian Cameron Green followed suit to Mumbai Indians after he was sold for Rs 17.5 crore and Chennai Super Kings pulled off the Ben Stokes deal for Rs 16.25 crore. Nicholas Pooran also commanded big bucks as Lucknow bought him for Rs 16 crore after a bidding war with Delhi Capitals.
Kane Williamson was the first player to be sold at the base price of Rs 2 crore as Gujarat Titans rope him in. Sunrisers Hyderabad spent Rs 10.25 crore on Harry Brook and bought Mayank Agarwal for Rs 8.25 crore. CSK secured Rahane’s service for Rs 50 lakh while Joe Root and Rossouw went unsold in Set 1.
England’s Joe Root, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan with a base price of INR 1.5 Crore was unsold amongst few others.
