Concluding a virtual meeting today the BCCI has shown confidence in hosting the IPL season for this year at home. Hinting towards stadiums in Mumbai and Pune, the board announced to go ahead hosting the IPL season 2021 in India.
The announcement further informed that the tournament would be held without any crowd. BCCI which is targeting Mumbai Pune stadiums to host IPL 2021 asserts that the Mumbai-Pune corridor would give the board a viable option to create a cluster and use only road travel. Thereby eliminating the chance of associated risk with air travel.
However, it did express to ready a backup in case the COVID cases in India spiked up. The franchise owners either prefer the UAE or South Africa as the alternative venue in case the tournaments demand a shift.
On Friday, the franchise owner concluded their retentions and draft picks came to an end. Nearly 1,214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas) have come up to be a part of the 2022 tournament. The mega auction that will be held on 12 and 13 February will see 10 teams with Ahmedabad and Lucknow as the new entrants.
Notably, IPL 2021 was held at home which was later passed and resumed in UAE.
