Sports: COVID-19 knocked out IPL as two players of KKR tested positive for coronavirus. Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier presented symptoms of the virus in the third round of testing in the last four days. All other team members have tested negative for Covid -19. Both the players have isolated and are constantly monitored by the Medical Team.
KKR versus Royal Challengers Bangalore has been postponed for today. Tentatively the match is speculated to be held before May 30.
“The Medical Team is also determining the close and casual contacts of the two positive cases during the 48 hours prior to collection of the sample that returned the positive test results, said IPL.”
KKR last played on April 29 against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad and the development is bound to trigger anxiety in the league, which had been going along smoothly so far in a biosecure bubble in front of empty stands across six venues.
There have been calls for the season for this to be scrapped off. However, BCCI cited legal challenges apart from commercial losses if IPL was cancelled.
So far five players namely, Delhi Capitals’ Ravichandran Ashwin, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson, Rajasthan Royals Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone, have already left the IPL 2021 due to concerns over the second wave.
