Pat Cummins was one of the expensive recruits of team KKR in the IPL 2021 tournament. However, after playing the first phase successfully, Cummins decided to pull out of the game stating he had some “personal reasons” for the same. Today, KKR coach McCullum announced that they have found a replacement to Australian All rounder Pat Cummins and that’s none other than NZ pacer Tim Southee.
A press release by team KKR says, “Kolkata Knight Riders, the two-time IPL Champions, has announced today that New Zealand pacer Tim Southee will replace Australian pace sensation Pat Cummins for the remainder of the Vivo Indian Premier League 2021 season”.
The Shahrukh-owned team Kolkata coach McCullum was heard appreciating Southee’s addition to the team. “We are delighted to have Southee in our ranks. He is a proven match-winner and welcome addition to the already strong pace attack of KKR. With Cummins being unavailable we wanted to add experience and leadership to our bowling group and Southee is the ideal man for the job”.
Southee remained unsold in the auction this year. He last played for RCB in the IPL 2019 tournament. He has played 305 international matches with 603 wickets in his kitty. The next leg of IPL is all set to start from September 19 and KKR will play its first match on Sept 20 in Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
