Sports: Virat Kohli had a horrible day for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2020 clash against Kings XI Punjab. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper dropped two catches of KL Rahul who went on to blast 132, the highest individual score by an Indian batsman in the history of the IPL.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, who was seated in the commentary box, criticised Kohli while passing a tasteless remark about Anushka Sharma which infuriated many on social media.

Taking a dig at Kohli’s failure with the bat, Gavaskar said: “Inhone lockdown me toh bas Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki hai, (he has only faced Anushka’s bowling in lockdown)” referring to the viral video of the couple that had surfaced during the country’s coronavirus lockdown. His choice of words was slammed nonetheless.

In a recent development, Anushka Sharma took to her instagram story and asked the former cricket to explain why he thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife. She said ” That, Mr. Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact byt I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wide accusing her for her husband’s game? I’, sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you think you should have equal amount of respect for me and us?”

“I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your min to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or are your words only relevant if you use my name in the process?,” she added.

She further said that its 2020 and still nothing has changed and asked when exactly all this will stop. “it’s 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements? ”

She ended her note with “Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this. ”

A few years ago, Virat Kohli addressed the social media hate against Anushka Sharma and said “Shame on those people who have been having a go at Anushka for the longest time and connecting every negative thing to her. Shame on those people calling themselves educated. Shame on blaming and making fun of her when she has no control over what I do with my sport. If anything she has only motivated and given me more positivity,”

But really, shame on the Indian Internet.
