The Men’s Selection Committee recently unveiled India’s squad for the remaining three Tests against England, maintaining Virat Kohli’s absence due to personal reasons requiring his undivided attention. While Kohli continues to be unavailable, the return of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and batter KL Rahul is a boost for the team, provided they receive clearance from the BCCI medical team after being ruled out of the second Test.
Shreyas Iyer, who took on the pivotal number four position in Kohli and Rahul’s absence during the second Test, did not secure a spot for the remainder of the series. The upcoming Test matches are scheduled to take place in Rajkot starting from February 15, followed by Ranchi on February 23, and concluding in Dharamsala on March 7.
India experienced an unusual setback in the first Test in Hyderabad, marking only their fourth home defeat in 47 matches. However, the team made a strong comeback in the second Test at Vishakapatnam, leveling the series. The leadership responsibilities continue to rest on the capable shoulders of Rohit Sharma as the captain, with Jasprit Bumrah serving as the vice-captain.
The squad features promising talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, while Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, and Dhruv Jurel bring their skills to the batting lineup. The wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Dhruv Jurel and KS Bharat. The spin department boasts the experience of R Ashwin, the all-round prowess of Ravindra Jadeja, and the spin options provided by Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Kuldeep Yadav. The pace attack is led by the dynamic duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohd. Siraj, with additional support from Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep.
As the team looks forward to the upcoming Tests, the focus will be on maintaining the winning momentum achieved in Vishakapatnam and ensuring a strong finish to the series against England.
