World Games 2025: Indian players performed their best ever in the World Games 2025 held in Chengdu, China, and won three medals. This was India’s most successful campaign in the history of the World Games. Earlier, India’s best performance was in 1989, when two medals were won. With the latest success, India’s total World Games medals have gone up to eight, which include one gold, two silver and five bronze.

Namrata Batra added the first medal to India’s kitty. She not only created history by winning silver in Wushu, but also gave India its first World Games medal in this sport. After this, Rishabh Yadav won bronze medal in men’s compound archery and gave India its first individual medal in this event. The third success was in the name of Anand Kumar Velkumar, who won bronze in the inline speed skating track 1000 meter sprint and achieved the distinction of giving India its first World Games medal in roller skating.

A look at India’s World Games journey reveals that in 1981 Prakash Padukone gave the country its first success by winning a bronze medal in men’s singles badminton. In 1989, Rekha Mal won bronze and Sumita Laha won silver in powerlifting. In 2013 in Cali, Aditya Snehal Mehta gave India its first and so far only gold medal in snooker. In the 2022 Birmingham World Games, Abhishek Verma and Jyothi Surekha Vennam won bronze in mixed team compound archery. These three medals won in Chengdu have become a new golden chapter in India’s World Games history.
