Indore: In a sensational showdown on Sunday, India emerged victorious against Australia by a resounding 99 runs, securing a decisive 2-0 series win. This triumph serves as a significant morale boost for the Indian cricket team, elevating their spirits as they prepare for the upcoming ICC World Cup in 2023.
The match was marked by India’s stellar performance, both in batting and bowling. Shreyas Iyer’s remarkable innings, scoring 105 runs off 90 balls, earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.
Rain made a cameo appearance during the Australian innings, disrupting play. However, Prasidh Krishna’s exceptional start saw him claiming two early wickets. David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne displayed impressive batting before the rain interruption.
India set an imposing target of 400 runs for Australia, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s explosive finish, contributing 72 runs from just 37 balls. At 399, this became India’s highest total against their Australian rivals.
The opening pair of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan launched a fireworks display, with both players hitting sixes. Although Australian bowlers managed to dismiss Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill, they faced the formidable duo of Rahul and Kishan.
Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer’s standout performances, each achieving a century, solidified India’s dominance in the second ODI. Skipper KL Rahul continued the onslaught alongside Shubman Gill after Sean Abbott dismissed Shreyas Iyer.
Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. While Team India had a slow start with the early departure of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer’s explosive innings shifted the momentum.
The match took place at the Holkar International Stadium in Indore, where India aimed to seal the three-match series with a victory, while Australia sought an opportunity to stage a comeback.
Due to regular skipper Pat Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith captained the Australian side. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was replaced in the playing XI with Prasidh Krishna.
