Dhruv Jurel is putting forth a solid argument to be included in the long run in the India Test team when he has replaced Rishabh Pant efficiently. When he got a chance to deputize, he demonstrated maturity and style when he scored a fluent half-century, keeping India on its way at a very crucial point. His innings helped the wickets of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul on either side of lunch not to take India off track towards a commanding first-innings lead.
On their soil, India claimed once again to rule out a visiting West Indies. On the first day in Ahmedabad, the Windies were completely bowled out in a paltry 162 during two sessions as their nerves and inexperience were tested by a well-disciplined Indian attack. India had struck the note early with the ball, and with the bat, they had approached the pursuit of the deficit with composure instead of aggressiveness. Using stumps, they had reduced this to only 41 runs and had eight wickets in their possession.
KL Rahul, who was not a beaten case with 53 overnight, featured as the anchor with much composure. He had a purpose: to establish a firm base enough to place India in a situation where it faced only once in the game. He did lose his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, as the left-hander tried to increase the rate of scoring. Sai Sudharsan, playing at third, did not start his debut home test in grand style, falling cheaply at the same ground where he has been playing so well in the IPL.
Shubman Gill came to the crease alongside Rahul, and they both were conversant with the conditions of the Narendra Modi Stadium and provided experience and quality to the India innings. The attack on the West Indies, in which the West Indians used sharp talents such as Jayden Seales and two debutants, was whether the West Indies could provide sufficient firepower to come at the middle order of the Indians after the ball became soft.
