Defending T20 World champions India have everything to start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign by playing a high-profile start against hosts, the United Arab Emirates, at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday. Arguably the most successful 24-3 win-loss record since their 2024 T20 World Cup victory, the men led by Suryakumar Yadav enter the tournament as massive favourites, ready to put their mark again in the shortest format.
The UAE, however, will seek to maximize the benefit of playing at home and give a spirited performance against the Asian giants. Their fighting brand of cricket is not in their favor, however. All of the international cricket the Emirati team has lost against India in all three ODIs and all three T20Is, the most recent of which was in the 2015 World Cup. Most recently, they suffered a winless tri-series with Pakistan and Afghanistan, yet were capable of giving good fights.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav commended the progress of the hosts at the pre-match press conference. “Their brand of cricket is exciting. In recent times, they have been very close to the top teams. We are glad to engage them,” Surya said.
India will be expected to turn their star-studded team throughout the group stage; complacency will be the biggest hazard they will face. The batting line-up appears strong with Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma all in good shape. Bumrah with as much support as Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh in their respective roles; a combination of pace and spin is just ideal in the bowling unit. Surya also gave suggestions to the part-time bowling services of himself, Rinku Singh, and Tilak Varma for added flexibility.
Sony Sports Network allows the fans to see the action live, and the online broadcast will be on the Sony Liv application and the web.
