India bowler Jasprit Bumrah once again produced a pronounced bowling show, taking four wickets to confine Bangladesh at 149 in 47.1 overs on Day two of the ongoing first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The visitors are now 227 runs behind the home side. As Bumrah led a mesmerizing morning show, Bangladesh failed to build fluency against a dominating Indian bowling lineup. Currently, India stands at 23/1 in the second innings, with Rohit Sharma being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed at the score of 5.
In the second session, Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das put some sense into the game by scoring 51 runs for the loss of one wicket in 94 balls. But just after that partnership was put up, Ravindra Jadeja pulled off the stand and got the wicket of Litton Das on 22 off 42 balls, and he tried for a big sweep. Shakib got out a bit later, bowled by Jadeja for 22, and Bangladesh was in big trouble.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud dealt with it as well as they could, though with a limited amount of success. Bumrah struck back in the last over before Tea to claim two big wickets of Mahmud and Bangladesh was in trouble at 112/8, still 264 runs behind. Earlier in the day, the Indian team had scored a total of 376, which paved the way for the bowler to come to the forefront.
As per the agreed schedule in the morning session of the match, Bangladesh seized the second new ball without much delay and was keen to force early breakthroughs. Very soon, it came Taskin Ahmed’s way as he bowled out Ravindra Jadeja for 86 in the third over of the day, thus depriving him of his well-deserved century. The 199-run partnership between Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin came to an end. Ashwin, though crossed the century and was dismissed on a fantastic 113 of 133 balls, which put India to a dominating total.
Bumrah also got into the groove early, dismissing Bangladesh in the very first over of the Bangladesh inning. Akash Deep then had a double wicket dismissal, dismissing Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque in successive balls, and Bangladesh reeled at 26/3 at lunch.
