Usman Khawaja smashed his 14th brilliant ton century guiding Australia to 255/4 at stumps on Day 1 of the 4th Test against India in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Opting to bat first the visitors lost 4 wickets- with Mohammed Shami taking two, and Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja each taking one. Cameron Green displayed excellent support for Khawaja remaining unbeaten at 49.
However, Khaja kept them in a strong position. While his opening partner Travis Head came out all guns blazing, Khawaja remained watchful. He firmly held one end as Head (32) and Marnus Labuschagne (3) departed in quick succession. Khawaja shared a 79-run stand with Steven Smith (38), while Peter Handscomb managed 17. He completed his century off 246 balls in the final session.
The game is evenly balanced and may topple on any side on Day on Friday.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi and his Australian counterpart-Anthony Albanese were greeted by a huge crowd as they took a lap of honor at the Gujarat Stadium ahead of the match. Modi and his Australian ally handed over Test caps to their respective team captains.
