India has also formally declared its bid for the 2036 Olympics by sending a ‘Letter of Intent’ to the Future Host Commission of IOC.
As per the news agency, a letter was filed on October 1 and will be India’s confirmation for this esteemed sporting event as Sources from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Interest on India’s prospect of hosting the Olympics has been rising as early as after the end of the Paris Olympics in August. On that occasion, Nita Ambani, encouraging India in the IOC, said, “The day is not very far when India will be the host of the Olympic Games.”
Her comments stirred emotions across the nation as many citizens were willing and looking forward to the opportunity to present India‘s capacities on such a platform. However, there are also disapproving opinions relying on the results of hosting the Games.
Karti Chidambaram of Congress said the bid, ‘‘will be a colossal disaster for India as a country.” Instead of targeting Olympic success, he said efforts should be made to build support for the Indian athlete through the provision of appropriate support mechanisms to enable him or her to perform optimally in his or her chosen game.
India is not the only nation with such plans; other nations, including Egypt, England, Indonesia and Qatar, are planning to host the 2036 Games. Later in mid-October, Olympic officials revealed after holding the meeting that of the ten possibilities under consideration, further negotiations could take place.
It is always hard to know how the selection is made, as Olympic officials are often in charge of the process. As a matter of interest, Brisbane was granted the 2032 Games eleven years early after disputed bidding, where vote-rigging and corruption were more featured in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic bidding processes.
