India dominated on Friday as they moved to a comfortable 10-wicket win over Bangladesh in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 semi-final played in Dambulla. India was chasing a target of 81, and it was clinical as the side reached 83/0 in just 11 overs. Stand-out batters were Mandhana, who was unbeaten on 55 and Shafali, who made 26 not out. An exemplary fielding show by both teams and a perfect completion of a chase sealed India’s supremacy in the tournament.
Bangladesh, the other side also never really got going and were languishing at 80 for 8 in their 20 overs. India’s bowlers were major contributors to the slump of the opponents, Renuka Singh bagging three wickets, while Radha Yadav also chipped in with three wickets. Their bowling and field setting was extremely good, which put immense pressure on the Bangladeshi batsman and restricted them from building a big total.
After the match, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that she had been proud of her team. “Our bowlers performed brilliantly today, whatever was planned in the meeting was executed well. I am really proud of their efforts. We were under pressure because we have been on the top dominating Asian cricket but our mindset is always to perform freely and work hard in the net sessions. Bowling department has always been very positive coming up with new strategies and inspiring me,” added Kaur.
She also stressed the rigorous practice that the team has been undertaking, as well as observing the set code of conduct in order to avoid dropping the standards they have set. “Consistency is something we value for, and we want to uphold the strategy that has been positive for us,” she continued, “We will watch and wait for the match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan and then make our preparations.”
