Chennai: In a promising start, India defeated Australia by six wickets. Despite a rocky start where the host team lost three wickets with just two runs on board, half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul powered India’s chase of 200.
Kohli and Rahul’s impressive 165-run partnership for the fourth wicket proved to be the turning point leading India to victory in 412 overs. Star batter Virat Kohli had a record-breaking outing on the cricket field as he became the Indian batter with the highest amount of runs in ICC tournaments, edging past legendary Sachin Tendulkar, in 27 ICC T20 World Cup matches.
International Cricket Council (ICC) took to its Twitter account to congratulate the all-rounder. “India all-rounder has pinpointed where his team managed to turn the match against Australia”, tweeted ICC.
ICC today announced the current standings wherein New Zealand topped the list. “New Zealand are top of the standings after the first round of matches”, wrote ICC.
The next World Cup match is scheduled today between New Zealand and the Netherlands. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM (IST) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Team India will play its next match against Afghanistan on October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
