Hangzhou: Indian Para-Powerlifting continued its remarkable journey at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Thursday, with Meerut’s Zainab Khatun and Delhi’s Rajkumari clinching silver and bronze medals in the 61kg weight category respectively. This marked their inaugural appearance at the Asian Games, and their performances hinted at a promising future for these emerging athletes in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
In addition to Khatun and Rajkumari’s achievements, India also secured a record-breaking 18th gold medal of the Asian Para Games on Thursday, thanks to Sachin Sarjerao Khilari’s victory in the men’s F-46 shot put. Khilari breached the Games Record mark by registering a throw of 16.03m, helping India surpass its best-ever gold medal tally in the Asian Para Games.
Rohit Kumar added a bronze medal for India in the same event, while Bhagyashri Madhavrao Jadhav won silver in the women’s shot put-F34. Sidhartha Babu also added a gold medal to India’s tally.
India also won a bronze in Para-Badminton. SAI wrote on X, “India claims another medal in Para-Badminton at Asian Para Games 2022”.
