The fielding coach of Team India, T Dilip, has provided a very important update on the head injury of Axar Patel, which he sustained in one of the group matches of the Asia Cup 2025 against Oman. The one-man did it when trying to make a catch in the 15th over during the chase of Oman. The first ball of the over was mishandled by Hammad Mirza, and the ball went towards Axar. The 30-year-old, however, missed his plan and fell on the ground, hitting his head in the process, which caused him to walk off the field in an apparent state of discomfort.

Patel has been found to be a major concern with less than two days to go before the high-stakes Super Four against Pakistan of India. After India won by 21 runs over Oman, Dilip tried to calm the nerves of the media and said that the injury was not as serious as it first seemed.

“At this moment, by the way, I have just seen Axar, he is doing well. That is what I could tell you about it,” Dilip said at the post-match press conference.

Axar, despite being injured, contributed well with the bat at the start of the game by hitting 26 runs in only 13 balls. During the innings of Oman, he only bowled one over and allowed four runs as India changed eight bowlers.

Unless Axar heals in time, India might be compelled to make some adjustments to their line-up by including an additional pacer, which will potentially affect the depth of the batting that the side has been relying on in the tournament. Such non-appearance would be a big loss to Patel as he played a remarkable game against Pakistan in the group stage, only to score 2/18 and dismiss Fakhar Zaman and Salman Agha.

In prospect, Dilip emphasised that India should be focused and ready. “We take each game as seriously as we can. Its staff is up to the task,” he said.
