New Delhi: India’s dreams of winning their 9th Olympic Gold came down crashing on Tuesday as the men’s hockey team lost their semi-final to world champions Belgium 2-5 in Tokyo.
India’s men’s hockey team took the lead after going down early against Belgium. However, Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner and Mandeep scored from open play in the first quarter. Belgium’s Alexander Hendrick scored a penalty corner to make it 2-2 and completed his hat-trick as he converted a penalty stroke to make it 4-2 to Belgium. India’s men’s hockey team has gone on a roll with their sturdy performances.
Meanwhile, today India’s Sonam Malik loses Round of 16 in Women’s Freestyle 62 kg bout to Mongolia’s Bolortuya. The teenager was leading most of the match but in the last 30 seconds the experienced Mongolian turned the table.
