Olympics: India Discus athlete Kamalpreet Kaur put in a splendid game play on Monday, but fell short of the medal in what was a rain marred event.
The Punjabi Kudi finished sixth with a best attempt of 63.70m. Starting with a throw of 61.62 m. Kamalpreet made a foul in her second throw. To avoid getting knocked out after her first three throws, she staged a throw of 63.70m in third attempt. While another foul fell into her scorecard during the fourth throw, lastly she only managed to spring 61.37 in her fifth throw followed by a foul in the last attempt that took away her dream of the podium.
Olympics 2020 was Kamalpreet’s maiden participation that achieved her creditable 6th position in women’s discus throw. She is yet to represent India in the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, Equestrian Fouaad Mirza finished 23rd in the individual final in Eventing Jumping. Indian shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput failed to breach the top 8 ranks as they missed the cut for the for 50m Rifle 3 Positions men’s finals. Sprinter Dutee Chand ran her season’s best but still failed to qualify for the semi-finals of women’s 200m.
