India A started their England visit with great form, ending the first day of the four-day game against England Lions at 409/3 in Canterbury. It was Karun Nair who led the side, and his brilliant unbeaten 186 marked his impressive comeback to the team. The batsman made it clear he wants a spot in the team for the upcoming Test matches by playing with power and determination on a batting-friendly surface.

Going along with him, Dhruv Jurel showed power and flair with his 82 runs when play stopped. Both batsmen are well established, so India A wants to guide Nair to a double century and help Jurel score his first hundred on Day 2. Jurel continues to show he is suitable for the longer format, playing maturely in Australia and England. As Rishabh Pant slowly comes back to action, Jurel’s steady performances could easily put him in the picture as a backup wicketkeeper-batter or just as a pure batter for India in longer games.

Nitish Kumar Reddy might find himself at the crease for an important time on Day 2 of the Test match at Headingley. Although just 22 years old, Reddy had a strong Australia A performance, but was not very noticeable in the IPL. He can find a new flow and boost in self-confidence by playing in this match.

India A might test Shardul Thakur’s abilities to move between swinging with the bat and bowling with the ball. Because he has performed well as a batsman and bowler across different levels, Thakur’s contribution to the team could shape the main squad.

Winning the match is not the main purpose for India A; the team aims to give key players game experience to help them handle tougher challenges.
