Before New Zealand bowled India out for 345 in the first innings of the first Test on Day Two on Friday, Shreyas lyer recorded his maiden century. India scored 81 runs and lost four wickets in the opening session of Day Two. The hosts were 339/8 at the close of the first session, with Ashwin and Umesh Yadav both unbeaten on 38 and 4 respectively. New Zealand bowlers, on the other hand, wasted little time in wrapping up the tail, with Ajaz Patel dismissing Ravichandran Ashwin and Ishant Sharma to dismiss India for 345 in the first innings at Green Park Stadium. Having resumed the day on 258/4, India began comfortably, but Southee took the first blood on Friday when he dismissed Ravindra Jadeja in the 87th over.
Shreyas, on the other hand, maintained his excellent form and scored his first Test century. He became the 16th man to achieve a century in a Test match for India. Meanwhile, Southee aided New Zealand’s recovery by dismissing Wriddhiman Saha and Shreyas in rapid succession. After dismissing Axar Patel, the right-handed bowler returned to reduce India to 313/8. On Day One, India dominated, with Shreyas and Ravindra Jadeia both scoring half-centuries. After falling to 154/4 in the second session, India finished Day One with 258/4.
