Chennai: Kohli seems to be all set for his stunning return after he missed three Tests in Australia whilst he was on paternity leave. Now that we have him back, India is braced to reign the pitch.
Ahead of the second day of the Test, Virat Kohli gathered his mates in a huddle to give a pep talk, which outlined the plan for the game today against England in Chennai.
The first day witnessed tourist Skipper Joe Root dominating the game playing his 100th Test scoring 128 unbeaten runs and 197 balls. This was Root’s third consecutive century in the sub-continent.
BCCI’s official Twitter handle shared a video on Saturday in which Kohli can be seen giving a pep talk and the board captioned the post as “Rise and shine. We are building up to Day 2 here at Chepauk.”
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, England scored 263 for three on day one at Chennai. The Indian team had to chase the leather as Joe Root and Dominic Sibley frustrated the hosts. Bumrah took two wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin picked up one. The India pace spearhead asserted the hosts will not just be focusing on the England skipper when the two sides take the field on Saturday as all the remaining wickets are equally important.
“Every wicket is equally important for us. All wickets are equally important not focusing on one particular individual (Root). We picked up three wickets today and our goal will be to pick seven wickets and we are focusing on that. Not a particular individual, there are many good players in their team, and we give everyone equal respect,” Bumrah said replying to a query from ANI after the close of play on day one.
We could expect the Indian skipper’s team to look for early wickets on day two, but it doesn’t seem a calk walk, and the bowlers aren’t getting a lot of assistance from the pitch.
However, Root and Dom Sibley produced a stunning 200 run partnership on the opening day. With England scoring 263/3 with Root playing on 128 runs. And Bumrah dismissed Sibley (87) in the 90th over.
