Sports: Members of the England cricket team including captain Joe Root arrived in Chennai on Wednesday for the four matches series against India with the first two played here. Some of the Indian players and the members of the support staff also landed in the southern city airport.
Joe Root and his men will follow a mandatory six-day quarantine period as per Covid-19 protocol before the party begins to start training for the match. The first match of the series will be played from 5th to 9th February, and the second encounter, which starts on February 13, will also be played at the same venue.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes, Rory Burns, and Jofra Archer had earlier arrived in Chennai on Monday, and the trio is already undergoing a quarantine period. Stokes landed with the other members of the squad who are not a part of the Sri Lanka series.
The England team on Monday completed a 2-0 sweep of the Tests against Sri Lanka, with Root slamming two big centuries. The practice for the full squad will commence for the first time on Tuesday — February 2. Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow has been left out of the 16-man England squad for the first two Tests, while openers Zack Crawley and Dom Sibley are part of that squad.
