India and Bangladesh faced off in the 17th match of the Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 19, 2023 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, India. India won the toss and elected to bat first.
India got off to a good start with openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul putting on a 100-run partnership. However, both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession after reaching their half-centuries. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer then steadied the innings, but they too were dismissed after getting good starts.
India’s bowlers then took over, with Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picking up four wickets each. Bangladesh were bowled out for 256 in 49.5 overs.
In reply, India got off to a poor start, losing their top three batsmen cheaply. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant played brilliant innings to revive India’s innings. Yadav scored a century (125) and Pant scored a half-century (75) as India reached 257/5 in 49.1 overs, winning the match by 5 wickets with 9 balls to spare.
