On the first day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Jasprit Bumrah gave India a significant breakthrough by dismissing Usman Khawaja in the second session on Thursday.

Debutant Sam Konstas continued Australia’s dominance in the morning session by scoring a quickfire 60 off 65 balls. His aggressive innings took the host Indian team to 112 for 1 at lunch, and India had to look for answers. After Konstans’s dismissal, Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne frustrated India by adding 65 runs for the second wicket and gave a strong start to Australia.

Khawaja was out for 57 runs by Bumrah on the very first ball of the new spell. Veteran opener Bumrah, who hit six fours during his composed innings of 121 balls, misjudged a pull shot on a length ball and ended up reaching KL Rahul. After getting out at short mid-wicket, Australia’s score became 154 runs for 2 wickets.

In the current series, Bumrah has dismissed Khawaja five times in six innings. Out of 87 balls bowled to Khawaja, Bumrah gave only 24 runs while taking his wicket five times. The only exception was in the second innings of the first Test in Perth, where Mohammed Siraj took the wicket of Khawaja. India suffered through a dominant start by Australia, and Bumrah’s wicket came at a crucial time. With Khawaja out, the visitors intend to regain ground in the game as the day goes on.
