Lucknow Super Giants emerged victorious with a 10-run win over Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match on Wednesday. Brilliant catch by Deepak Hooda helmed the victory of LSG at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Batting first, Lucknow only posted a total of 154 runs on the board. Despite an 87-run stand for the first wicket, Rajasthan could only reach 144 runs in 20 overs, much to the disappointment of hosts captain Sanju Samson.
Avesh Khan took three wickets while Marcus Stoinis scalped two. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler provided the perfect start in the run chase but RR kept losing wickets at regular intervals and a late onslaught from Devdutt Pallikal was not enough.
Jaiswal made 44 off 35 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes, while his senior opening partner Buttler got 40 in 41. LSG waited quite a bit before bringing their impact player Amit Mishra into action. And for their first breakthrough, they had to wait till the 12th over, when Jaiswal cut Marcus Stoinis to the short third man fielder Avesh Khan, who seemed to have injured his hand while completing a low catch.
Earlier, Kyle Mayers slammed another half-century while KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran played crucial knocks to take LSG to 154/7 on a tricky pitch. Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of RR bowlers with two wickets.
