In 2026, Bangladesh Cricket Board is in the middle of an ever-increasing controversy, with issues of governance and administration attracting a lot of attention. After the Board of Control Cricket India and the International Cricket Council tussled over the Mustafizur Rahman IPL ban, the incidence was further fueled when Bangladesh launched an investigation into recent elections in the board.

The inquiry is centered on the emergence of the president of the BCB Aminul Islam, and the relevant officials are investigating the alleged malpractices, manipulation, and the misuse of power. In this, the BCB has threatened the government on possible consequences of interference even proposing to take it to ICC.

No such claims were made but former BCB general secretary and former ACC CEO Syed Ashraful Haq rejected such claims saying the ICC has no involvement in the board affairs. He explained that the BCB is under the authority of the National Sports Council (NSC) and it is therefore subject to government control.

According to Ashraful, the NSC can dissolve the board at will in case the failure or any illegality of governance has been proved or the breach of laws of elections. He also indicated issues concerning the domestic cricket league mismanagement and lapses in administration which might enhance the case of action.

The continuing investigation by the sports ministry is to unravel any kind of malpractice in the operation of the board. In case the allegations are established, this may result in significant structural reforms in the Bangladesh administration of cricket.

The events have created a doubt of uncertainty in the cricketing community as the stakeholders are in close view of follow up as to how the situation might develop and what effect it would have on the future of the sport in Bangladesh.
