The Women’s 50-over World Cup 2025 has already started its countdown, and the long-awaited event is set to start on September 30 in Guwahati, when India is going to play Sri Lanka in the first match. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a historic statement on the amount of prize money, with just a month to go, and this has added a buzz to the tournament among both players and fans.
The ICC announced that the overall prize money at the next edition will be a record-breaking USD 13.88 million, almost four times more than the USD 3.5 million that was given out in the previous edition in New Zealand in 2022. This is an incredible 297 percent increase in total and a new standard in women’s cricket.
The prize money for the Women’s World Cup has now exceeded that of the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023, which had an overall purse of USD 10 million. Those who win the 2025 version will get USD 4.48 million, a 239 per cent jump over USD 1.32 million that Australia brought home when he/she won his/her seventh title three years ago. It is worth noting that this is more than the USD 4 million awarded to the winners of the Men’s ODI World Cup in 2023.
The qualifiers will scoop USD 2.24 million, a 273 percent increase on the USD 600,000 England won in 2022. Other winners will also share the success, as the two semi-finalists that fail to reach the final will earn USD 1.12 million as opposed to USD 300,000 before. There is an incentive even at the group stage, where each team receives USD 34,314 per group stage victory.
Moreover, the five and six teams have to win USD 700,000 each, and teams number seven and eight win USD 280,000.
