New Delhi: HS Prannoy has kept India’s campaign alive at the prestigious Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament by reaching the quarter-finals on Thursday, June 16th. The World No. 23 defeated World No. 12 Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong 21-11, 21-18 in the men’s singles Round of 16 match.
Prannoy will take on the winner of a Round of 16 match between Rasmus Gemke and Brice Leverdez in the quarter-final on Friday at Istora. Prannoy is the only Indian left in the fray at Indonesia Open. The member of India’s Thomas Cup triumph was on top of his game as he defeated Ng Ka Long without breaking a sweat.
After taking the opening game in a breeze, Prannoy made sure he never allowed Ng to have any momentum as he closed down the match in straight games. Notably, Prannoy had defeated 7th seed Lakshya Sen in an all-Indian opening round.
Earlier in the day, India’s Sameer Verma lost to 6th seed Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in straight games in the men’s singles Round of 16 match. The women’s doubles pairing of Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy and the men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila were also eliminated in the Round of 16.
