India on Day 4 of CWG 2022 secured medals in several events. The weightlifting competition continued to bring home laurels taking the total medal count to 6 with 3 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. The 4th day began with the lesser-known lawn bowls in which the Indian women’s contingent defeated New Zealand to take the berth to the finals. The women in spirits defeated the opponents by a scoreline of 16-13 in an intriguing 15-Ends match.
The team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia, and Rupa Rani will now face South Africa in the gold medal match on day 5.
Meanwhile, India’s Mohd Hussamuddin defeated Md Salim Hossain at 5-0 in the Boxing RO16 Featherweight category. 2014 CWG silver medallist Sushila Devi would fight for gold after an ippon against Priscilla of Mauritius in the judo semis. Suchika Tariyal lost to Donne in the quarterfinals but she is still in contention to fight for bronze.
Jasleen Singh Saini in 67kg, Suchika Tariyal in 57kg, and Vijay Kumar Yadav in 60kg would fight for Bronze. In Squash, Sunayna Sara Kuruvilla advances to the semifinals with a straight win.
Amit Panghal proved his mettle winning both rounds 1 and 2 with ease in the 51kg men’s category. He advanced to the quarterfinals after winning by unanimous decision.
