Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder in India, is likely to miss the upcoming ODI series against Australia because he experienced a left quadriceps injury during the Asia Cup Super 4s match against Sri Lanka in the Dubai International Stadium. The injury also made him miss out on the final of the Asia Cup 2025 match against Pakistan, with Rinku Singh coming in to replace him. As reports suggest, the Mumbai Indians skipper has been recommended at least four weeks of rest, and his inclusion in the three-match ODI series is very unlikely.

The three ODIs and five T20Is will comprise the India tour of Australia, which starts with the match at the Optus Stadium in Perth, October 19. Pandya will most likely miss the ODIs even when he recovers sooner than projected. With action potentially continuing into the T20I series beginning October 29 at the Manuka Oval in Hobart, Pandya is not ruled out, but the BCCI team would have to confirm he is medically fit to proceed with it.

The ODIs are more so, as they may herald the comeback of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom have just retired from Test cricket earlier this year. The loss of Pandya will burden the bowling and batting line-ups of India even more, as he was a very active participant in both areas.

The BCCI Medical Team will soon provide the team management with a comprehensive report that will dictate the further course of action as far as Hardik’s recovery and his participation in the T20Is are concerned. Ravi Shastri, the former coach of India, in his commentary of the final of the Asia Cup, confirmed that Pandaya is suffering a quadriceps injury strain in the front thigh muscle that is essential in explosive action in cricket.

Although the team is optimistic about a quick recovery, every indication is that Hardik Pandya will be sidelined during the ODIs, although his inclusion in the T20Is can only be achieved in case his recovery process is beyond exceptional.
