Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has retaliated hard at ex-pacer of Pakistan Mohammad Amir calling young India opener Abhishek Sharma as a slogger in the run up to the high profile India-Pakistan T20 world cup match at Colombo on Sunday.
The exchange started following the time Amir requested Abhishek on a Pakistani television program to clarify his technique, and that the left-hander is unable to defend himself. Amir stated that the Indian batter could easily be disposed through right strategy and argued that he has not yet been tested properly at the highest level.
Harbhajan nevertheless rejected these statements and came out in full support of the youngster. He claimed that it was mean of making Abhishek a mere power-hitter that the breadth of his strokeplay and his knowledge of the game is neglected.
He is not a blind man who swings around. He possesses a complete repertoire of shots and knows how to time an innings, Harbhajan said, and the opener can get all around the wicket in terms of cover drives and high lofts over long-on and in midwicket.
The ex-spinner also warned critics to not undermine the batter, as once Abhishek gets to the crease, he may be a threat to any bowling assault. As the events have been heating up in the run-up to the much-awaited India-Pakistan face off, the verbal exchanges have further intensified an already charged up battle.
