After the thrilling encounter between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam, the IPL 2025 caravan will now be moving to Ahmedabad, where Gujarat Titans will take to the field at the iconic Narendra Mohamed Stadium for their first match of the season. On Tuesday, the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings will travel down to the Titans as both teams look to get their campaigns on a winning path. Home advantage is a factor that’s come into play in this year’s tournament, and every home team, except Kolkata Knight Riders, have won, giving Shubman Gill and his team a chance to capitalize on that.
Under the young leadership of Shubman Gill, the Titans had a mixed outing last year, but they retained the man on faith and the captain in him. GT hopes for a different season, with a stronger squad and more experience. Prasidh Krishna, South African speedster Gerald Coetzee, veteran Ishant Sharma, and pace attack names Kagiso Rabada Mohammed Siraj line up to make their India debut alongside their South African counterpart. The spin department has both quality and variety in the form of Rashid Khan and Washington Sundar.
The addition of explosive opener Jos Buttler has also fortressed the second part of Gujarat Titans’ batting lineup. But there is a tough decision for him to make out of team management as to who will be opening with Shubman Gill beside Buttler and the in-form Sai Sudharsan. And joining him in the middle order are West Indian power hit Sherfane Rutherford, Masood Shahrukh Khan and Sai Sudharsan. Regarding all-rounders, they have Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar and Mahipal Lomror, who can play those crucial roles and bring depth and balance.
Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have almost completed a makeover, calling just two players — Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh — before the auction. Shreyas Iyer captured INR 26.75 crore, which was splurged on him, and he was made captain and directed.
