With the cash-rich league first match underway at Mumbai today, police have announced to provide a green corridor for movement of busses carrying players and staff to ensure timely arrival at the venue.
Over 1,100 traffic personnel will be engaged for the matches in Mumbai, a senior officer said on Saturday. “Regarding green corridors, each team will be provided (police) escort and security as some of the matches are (scheduled) during peak hours. Infrastructure-related work is also going on at some places in Mumbai,” the officer added.
Considering the distance between the hotels the players are stationed and the stadiums, the Mumbai police has prepared its security plan for the days when the matches will be held in Mumbai. Necessary logistical support is also being taken care of.
The distance between south Mumbai and D Y Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai is around 35 kilometres and considering traffic-related issues, Mumbai Police will coordinate with their counterparts in Navi Mumbai for smooth traffic movement, he said, adding that Thane and Pune Police too will be put in the loop.
The CSK and KKR scheduled to lock horns at Wankhede stadium today will have full escort comprising of a police officer and a traffic police on their departure from the hotel. CSK has been residing in Hotel Trident in South Mumbai while KKR is lodged at ITC Grand Central in Parel. Citing the varied location of stay, the police has decided to place precautionary measures to avoid traffic chokes considering Marine Drive and Church gate in the vicinity.
