The Indian sports ministry has planned to host a grand welcome to the Indian Badminton players who clinched their maiden Thomas Cup Trophy by outclassing Indonesians.

An official from the ministry was quoted as saying-We are planning for a grand and warm welcome for our champion team. We are on it and planning is in full swing.

For the first time in history, India on Sunday dethroned defending champions and 14-time winners Indonesia with a commanding 3-0 win in the summit clash of the Thomas Cup Final to script a historic win. Members of the winning squad would return after participating in the Thailand Open which will end this week.

Legendary Badminton player Prakash Padukone has titled the win as Badminton Superpower.”I didn’t expect this to happen so early, not at least in the next 8-10 years. I think we have truly arrived and India will be considered a superpower and a threat from now on. It will give a big fillip to the sport,” Padukone, India’s first All England Champion in 1980 said in a media interaction.
