It is an interesting addition to the glorious cricketing career of Sourav Ganguly as he is the highest official of the Pretoria Capitals. Even though it might seem like a sudden twist to many, to a man who has had his career interwoven with every aspect of Indian cricket, it is a logical extension. His career as an active cricketer and the team skipper, to his years as a commentator, current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), and later on the director of Delhi Capitals and the president of the BCCI, has been evidence of his devotion to the game. Coaching was always the next logical thing to do, coming with such a rich background.

Ganguly will turn up his coaching rifle with the sister team, Delhi Capitals, now. This will most likely be only the start of a further career that might in the future see him replacing Gautam Gambhir as India coach. Similar to Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid earlier on, Ganguly has shown the ability to identify and develop talent.

Under his leadership as the boss of Indian cricket, the likes of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, and Harbhajan Singh blossomed, and the list of match-winners that his regime can take credit for is scarcely comparable to any other before it. He was also an influential figure even after his retirement and was liked by other players, as well as young cricketers. His few tangles with Virat Kohli notwithstanding, Ganguly has turned out to be a better communicator who can energise and lead a team.

Fifty-three seems a younger age, and he seems even more energetic, having had a heart attack at 52. Being a coach is not an easy job; it is both physically and mentally tough, but Ganguly loves to stay connected and give his contribution to the game. Having worked in the IPL system already, his career as the coach of India seems more predictive than ever.
