The Indian ODI team still has the reason to celebrate once they win the first game against South Africa 17-run and this leads them to the series 1-0, with Rohit and Kohli. This victory is a relief given that they lost their 1-2 series against Australia some time ago. Having won two straight ODI matches by now, India is gradually recovering the shock of the 0-2 whitewash they had received at the hands of South Africa the previous week.
ODI cricket is not played so often these days, it is only the second ODI series that India has won since the title of the Champions Trophy in February, but the format is yet to be exciting with two modern giants on the field Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. They have come back to create fan buzz and social media hype. The score of 73, followed by 121 which Rohit did not lose and 57, and the 74 and 135 by Kohli has made the fans remember the good old days when Ro-Ko ruled the world in the field of cricket. It is once again an electric stadium atmosphere and the Indian fans are finally entertained after years of dry spells.
But throughout the cheerful performances, there has been a disturbing event in the dressing room. A report indicates that the internal environment of the ODI set up in India has changed with the reentry of Rohit and Kohli. The Test and T20I conditions are stable however the ODI camp is under reported tensions. Head coach Gautam Gambhir, at one time reputed to have cordial relations with the senior duo, is reportedly having become distanced with them.
One of the BCCI sources quoted in the report told that the equation between Gambhir, Kohli and Rohit has become borderline cold and negotiations about the future of the two senior players can be held in the near future either in Raipur or Visakhapatnam.
