SYDNEY: Speculations of internal rift in the Indian team are gaining momentum. Even the rift between captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir has created controversy for several weeks. Amidst all this, captain Rohit Sharma took the surprising decision of dropping himself from the Sydney Test. Now a new report has emerged that factionalism has started within the Indian cricket team and players are seen roaming around in small groups.
According to the Australian media, there has been tension within the Indian team for quite some time. The report said, “Team India players are not willing to go out with each other for eating or drinking together. Instead, the players have formed small groups. 8-9 players and support staff members were seen together when they were going for dinner at the Japanese restaurant Nobu.”
The same report also claimed that Gautam Gambhir stayed in the hotel, while other players were seen roaming around in small groups. To increase closeness between the players, a senior member of the support staff even offered his credit card saying that he would buy drinks for everyone. But his efforts proved unsuccessful. Not a single player of the team agreed to the words of this senior support staff member.
So far all this can be said to be just a rumour because there has been no official confirmation on any matter. If all this is true then it has definitely affected the performance of the team. How can it be that a team which won the Perth Test by 295 runs suddenly gets eliminated? After Perth, the Indian team has looked helpless in the next three matches.
