India coach Gautam Gambhir will host a special dinner on Wednesday at his residence in New Delhi, where he will welcome Shubman Gill and rest of the Indian Test team before taking on the second and final Test against the West Indies which is set to commence on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
It is reported that the dinner will be an informal team building event that will be organized as an outdoor event in the garden area of Gambhir. The plans are however dependent on weather changes and can be canceled in case of rain in the capital. It is one of the initial gestures of this kind by Gambhir since his appointment as the head coach of India last year. Gambhir has an image of being a no-nonsense guy on the field and he is also keen on building camaraderie and team spirit off the field especially when the Indian team is going through a transitional phase and has a number of young players.
India will go to the Delhi Test with a victory in the bag having led the two-match series defeating the West Indies by a massive 140-run margin in a resounding innings and 140 runs in the first Test in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The first innings in that match could only see West Indies, with Mohammed Siraj (4/40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) toppling bowlers, achieving only 162. India responded with 448/5 that was declared, with centuries by KL Rahul (100), Dhruv Jurel (125), and Ravindra Jadeja (104)*. Jadeja, who had also delivered the total of eight wickets in both innings was recognized as the Player of the Match due to his performance, which was a brilliant debut as the vice-captain of India in Tests.
During the second part of the West Indies series, the visitors were only able to score 146, and India was granted an easy win by the four-day margin as it took off on the strong footing to the Delhi Test.
