World: The 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup shall kick off on November 21, 2022 in Qatar. Qatar hosts the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab World. With only 500 days to go until the event begins, the Qatari officials have informed that five out of eight stadiums have been completely constructed.
The rest three shall be ready by the end of the year. According to SC’s Yasir Al Jamal, Vice Chairman, Technical Delivery Office, and Chairman, Operations Office, Qatar’s FIFA WC Infrastructure projects has reached 95 percent completion, with all the stadiums set to be ready.
Qatar will host the most compact version of this tournament in modern history. The tournament’s first match will be held at the stunning 60,000 seat Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor City. Besides, all eight stadiums are within 50 km of Central Doha. The players, fans, and all the officials shall be staying in one accommodation throughout the event. The event shall conclude when the finale at the 80,000 seat Lusail Stadium on December 18, 2022, which also stands to be Qatar’s National Day.
Nasser Al Khater, CEO of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, spoke of his country’s pride in hosting the biggest single-sport event in the world. Releasing an official statement he said, “five-hundred days to go means we’re getting very close. It’s been ten years in the making and this will be the biggest event that’s ever happened in the Middle East. It will bring the region together and be a moment of pride in the history of the world”. Al Khater believes the compact tournament footprint is one of Qatar’s unique selling points for fans as they begin planning their trips to the country.
